Natalie offers tutoring for all sections of the CTP (ERB) exam. The CTP by the ERB, creator of the ISEE, is a comprehensive, extensive assessment for students in grades 1-11. The CTP (ERB) tests math and language arts skills in multiple areas, including: vocabulary knowledge, verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, math concept knowledge, writing skills, grammar skills, and reading comprehension. For students preparing for levels 3-10 (grades 2-11) of this exam, she works with them through all necessary concept review, practice questions, and exercises. During lessons, they also learn the right strategies and time management techniques to achieve high scores on the all sections of the CTP.

Verbal Reasoning
The Verbal Reasoning section includes analogies, verbal classification (grouping), and logic questions. To be successful on the test, students need to master strategies for each different question type so they will be successful on the test.

Reading Comprehension
The Reading section includes the 4 basic reading questions — main idea, detail, inference, and vocabulary context — as well as vocabulary knowledge and other relevant question types, depending on the test grade level. Students are expected to analyze given passages and use reading strategies to correctly answer passage questions.

Writing Mechanics
The Writing Mechanics section focuses on grammar skills and knowledge. For every grade level, students need to have a good understanding of spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and usage rules.

Writing Concepts and Skills
The Writing Concepts and Skills section tests a student’s ability to connect their knowledge of English grammar to written language. They also must understand how to develop writing structure per grade level and the steps of the writing process.

Mathematics
Math skills are tested in 2 sections, Mathematics Part 1 and Part 2. Depending on a student’s grade level, they will be answering multiple-choice questions based on the concepts and skill sets they are required to learn and master at school.

Quantitative Reasoning
The Quantitative Reasoning section uses quantitative comparison questions to test students’ analytical math skills across concept areas. They will need to use specific time management techniques and strategies to master this challenging question type.

FAQ about Natalie’s test prep
Do you offer a full test prep program or classes?
I offer one-on-one lessons, not classes, where my tutoring adapts to the needs of every student. I guide students through their test prep with targeted concept review, strategies, and time management techniques. I do not have a one-size-fits-all approach or set curriculum for everyone to follow.
What does a typical lesson with you look like?
Test preparation is a combination of concept review and test-taking strategies. I help my students not just get to the right answer, but also understand how they got to the right answer and what makes it correct. They also learn how to methodically approach questions and answers. A typical lesson for a reading comprehension test section would be working through a number of passages with test-specific questions, for example, or for math test sections, working through practice questions and any needed concept review for those questions at the same time. A good amount of lesson time is spent on mastering strategies and building good time management skills. By understanding how a test works and how the testmakers have created the questions, students better learn how to take that test with minimal stress and maximum success.
Can you guarantee a score increase on the actual test?
Successful test prep depends entirely on a student’s commitment to a study plan, daily practice, and application of strategies and techniques learned during lessons. I personally cannot promise that any student will definitely raise scores just because of my tutoring. However, students who practiced diligently and listened to my advice during lessons — and applied it — did in fact raise their scores significantly.
How many lessons will my child need?
Some students need more support, while others need less. Guessing how many lessons a student needs requires more information. To start, I always ask for practice test results or previous test results to help me see where we need to focus our efforts the most. I also ask about what test prep, if any, you have done so far, and what your specific test score goals are. Your test preparation should start as early as possible before a test date. If your child has any struggles or gaps in a specific subject area, like math, reading or vocabulary, then they will most likely need more tutoring than the average student.
Parent and Student Reviews
My 6th grader needed some focused tutoring for a few areas of a standardized test (CTB ERB). Natalie worked with him twice a week for the month prior to the test, and it was exactly what he needed to excel! Natalie sent out homework and reviewed it with him over the computer/whiteboard program. It worked great!
